Restriction of microplastics

Regulation (EU) 2023/2055 on the restriction of synthetic polymer microparticles (SPM) — commonly referred to as microplastics — requires companies to comply with specific information obligations. The requirements apply to suppliers of SPM that make use of certain exemptions or transitional periods.

The reporting obligations for SPM have already been applicable since 17 October 2025. Additional requirements, including those for certain in vitro diagnostic medical devices, will apply from 17 October 2026. Companies are required to collect, document, and provide relevant information throughout the supply chain.
